Dr. Davide Cina
Urology Resident (R2)
University of British Columbia

Davide is currently an urology resident at the University of British Columbia. He grew up in Toronto and completed an Honors Bachelor in Arts and Sciences at McMaster University before pursuing an MD-PhD at the University of Toronto. There, under the supervision of Prof. Susan Quaggin he focused on renal biology, using different functions genetic tools to dissect cell-signaling pathways that regular the kidney’s filtration function. He followed Prof Quaggin to a new appointment at Northwestern University in Chicago where he ultimately completed his PhD work and the remainder of his MD. Once he completed his undergraduate medicine and doctoral studies, he went on to pursue his urology residency at UBC — attracted by its strong academic track-record and emphasis on urologic research.
His research interests include using single-cell sequencing to dissect signaling pathways in organs with complex and diverse cellular architecture, and modeling urologic disease using organoid technology both to better delineate the molecular underpinnings of disease, as well as identify novel therapeutic targets.
